Man v/s Crow

Peculiarities in humans can be seen quite often, not to mention the oddities sometimes are familiar with other living beings.

It is a thought which is just four to five months old. The city of dreams, Mumbai was full of life as it always is. I was siting on the edge of a wall in Bandstand, staring at the sky and the waves of the sea hitting the rocks, when I observed something really interesting. In addition to being one of the best places for couples to hangout, it also serves as a good spot for having a nice and clear sight of the Rajiv Gandhi Sealink

A crow came flying in and sat on a rock. It was as though it was having a joyous time with the waves. The crow, then slowly moved towards the rocks in the front close to the shore. Whenever the waves came closer, the crow used to dodge them. It appeared as if the crow was playing 'dodge the waves.' It was just a matter of time when it couldn't dodge the water and got wet. The crow slowly moved to a safer rock and was having sunbath. The crow sat unmoved for almost 15 minutes. I was eagerly waiting for it's next move. It took time but finally there was a movement by the crow and that move was disappointing. The crow just silently flew away and didn't return.

I couldn't understand, why out of so many birds, crows were the ones catching me eyes. Next morning I stood in the balcony looking for something interesting and the first thing I saw was the 'murder of crows.' There were a few bowls filled with water. One of the crows stood on the edge of the bowl and was drinking water. Whenever some other crow used to come close by it used to shoe it away. After a while I saw something surprising. The crow had allowed four more crows to drink water from the same bowl at the same time.

At first I couldn't figure out what was going on. But then, I put both the incidents together I had a feeling that there were a few similarities between a human and a crow. We humans (most of us) take up challenges but do not dare to face the odds. We try escaping from them rather than facing them with courage.  A small problem is exaggerated and made into a bigger one. It's not just that, the second incident shows how we differentiate the one's we like from the one's we don't. We always have reasons and excuses ready. It's the 'EGO' in us that creates all these differences.

Well, if that's the case then what's the difference between us and the other living beings? Is it just the common sense to differentiate the good and bad? We hardly find people with the feeling of humanity now-a-days. If it's just the emotions and the thought process that matter, I feel even other creatures have these. We having the wisdom to differentiate good and bad is of no use unless we utilize it.

"It's time for us to start thinking!"
