ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND HUMAN RESOURCES
“Artificial Intelligence Would
Revolutionize HR Industry!!”
Ever wondered how humans developed the
power of computer systems in terms of their diverse working domains, their
increasing speed, and reducing size with respect to time. A branch of Computer
Science named Artificial Intelligence pursues creating the computers or
machines as intelligent as human beings and it is a true fact!
But what is Artificial
Intelligence? According to the father of Artificial Intelligence, John
McCarthy, it is “The Science and Engineering of making intelligent machines,
especially intelligent computer programs”. It is a way of making a computer, a
computer-controlled robot, or a software think intelligently, in the similar
manner the intelligent humans think. It is accomplished by studying how human
brain thinks and how humans learn, decide, and work while trying to solve a
problem, and then using the outcomes of this study as a basis of developing
intelligent software and systems.
Human resource is the life blood of
any type of organization. The most important asset for any organization is
their Human Resources and they serve the organisation to achieve its goal.
Management of human resources plays an extremely vital role as compared to the
technology or capital and for its effective management, organization requires
effective HRM practices. Human resource development has become an essential
component in the development process. HRM can help organisation to improve
their manners in such areas as staff commitment, proficiency and suppleness,
which in turn leads to improved staff performance. This field of HRM is still
in its evolutionary phase and it is difficult to identify any crystal clear
framework to retrofit the existing strewn perspectives.
With advanced data-driven
technology such as artificial intelligence (AI) growing by leaps and bounds
across businesses, it should not astonish the HR experts who are just looking
up to AI as their tool for spot decision making and Employee Management in the
near future. Espousing Artificial Intelligence is just aggrandizing. But, the
critics are still timorous that the technology could replace human workers and
even do much of the work of HR. Perhaps, there is no way to abscond. Every turn
you make, AI takes over it!
Artificial intelligence is all
about analyzing, breaking down and transforming data into humanized format,
which is just effortless to interpret and study. With the staggering influx of
data in the human resource arena, artificial intelligence can offer an ocean of
insights in key areas that often go unnoticed such as productivity, managerial
effectiveness, employee engagement and talent assessment to just name a few.
This would help HR’s to understand their workforce in a much better way and
foresee workforce trends as well as identify problem areas well in advance.
The platforms are just emancipating
up HR professionals in a myriad way. Moreover, the ways that AI will support HR
instead of replacing HR are:
1. AI can
learn the qualifications of employees who are successful in a role and apply
the knowledge to screen, rank, and grade candidates who match the criteria.
2. AI is best
suited for collecting and compiling data quickly and without human error.
3. AI helps
managers understand their team’s feedback and put it to use immediately.
4. AI will
help HR finally become a strategic partner through the adoption of metrics and
analytics.
5. AI will
just enhance the candidate’s assessment and speed up time to hire without
sacrificing quality of hire.
6. Intelligent
bots will act as virtual assistants in the employee on-boarding process, by
creating new employee profiles and helping staff answer basic questions about
benefits, insurance, and company policies.
AI powered tools combined with a slight
human touch would render more stalwart and intelligent HR solutions in future.
AI has the capability to create more people-oriented workplaces that would
breed happy and contended employees minus biases.
As human resource functions are
turning more and more accountable for driving business outcomes since the last
couple of years, utilizing the power of AI is one of the pivotal and
life-changing technological trends that HR managers and leaders can embrace to
drive Employee Management.
"Machines will follow a path that mirrors the evolution of humans. Ultimately, however, self-aware, self-improving machines will evolve beyond humans' ability to control or even understand them."
- Ray Kurzweil
