Distorted

Was I wrong? Maybe.

But mom wasn’t right either!

She let him go late at night,

And not even let me wear that skirt.

I said its 21^st century ma!

Worlds changed out there,

And I am still locked in my room.

All that she said was,

“Only in your fictional novels, girl!”

Torn between education and society,

My cheeks flushed pink with anger inside,

I banged the front door and left to be a free bird,

I felt like something changed in me,

That one glass of wine turned me into a woman from mumma’s little girl.

And I never realized when that twinkle disappeared,

The place turned unknown,

With everything blurred,

I still maintained my composure.

Walking home barefooted,

On a rainy day, drenched in guilt,

With the words stinging,

“You don’t know the world little girl,

You are just like a deer in a world full of wolves.”

But was I wrong? Maybe,

But mom wasn’t right either!
